Minor ii°–V–i Cadence i-iio-V-i
Piano sound loads on first tap. Resolved in the key of C — every chord links to its full analysis.
The minor-key twin of the jazz ii–V–I. Because the second degree is naturally diminished in minor keys, the ii chord shrinks to a half-diminished seventh (ii°/m7b5) before the dominant (V) resolves to the minor tonic — the textbook minor-key turnaround taught in every jazz theory course.
What each degree does
Home, but in shadow — the minor tonic. The same rest as I, coloured dark and melancholic.
The predominant of the minor mode — a half-diminished ii, tense and unstable, preparing the dominant. The opening of the minor ii–V–i.
Tension pulling home — the chord that 'wants to resolve' to I; it closes or opens sections. The dominant, the engine of the key.
Home, but in shadow — the minor tonic. The same rest as I, coloured dark and melancholic.
